What does Sustainability mean in Costa Rica?
Costa
Rica is a small country with a strong commitment: to protect its
Nature and share it with the world. Over 26%
of its national territory—more
than 1.3 million acres
(≈ 540,000 hectares)—is
protected as national parks, forest reserves, and wildlife refuges.
The country is currently home to 29
national parks and dozens of
protected areas that safeguard its natural wealth.
Although
Costa Rica covers only 0.03% of
the planet’s land surface, it
harbors nearly 5% of the world’s
biodiversity. This means that
every responsible visit helps preserve one of the planet’s most
valuable natural treasures.
